I've worked on two businesses for years — cookie kits formulated for the nutritional needs of specific hikes, and sawhorse desks that adjust to your height and fit in the trunk of a small car. In that time I tried Joomla VirtueMart, 3DCart, BigCartel, PrestaShop, Jimdo, Squarespace, Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, ECWID, Square, Weebly, WooCommerce, and Ziro.

Every single one sent me down the same rabbit hole. Hunting for the right theme. Installing plugins. Tweaking CSS. Fighting the platform. And just when I'd gotten comfortable, the price went up, or I'd hit a page limit, or an image limit, or a feature I'd relied on moved to a higher tier.

Meanwhile the world moved from desktop to phone. Most of these platforms treated mobile as an afterthought — storefronts that technically worked on a phone but were clearly designed for a mouse.

The problem wasn't me. The problem was that none of these platforms were built for what I actually make — products configured for the person buying them. Cookie kits matched to the nutritional demands of specific hikes. Desks sized to your height and lifestyle. Products where the customer's choices change what they're actually getting.

So I built Switchbake. Not as a startup looking for a market. As a maker who needed a tool that didn't exist.
